Precision Grinding

Blanchard Grinder

Blanchard grinders are known for their distinctive rotary surface grinding technique. They feature a rotating magnetic chuck that holds the workpiece securely in place while a grinding wheel mounted on a vertical spindle moves across the surface. This set up allows for consistent and precise material removal.

MBI has a range of Blanchard grinders in several sizes. Our largest grinder has a swing radius of 84" inches. The swing radius refers to the diameter of the largest workpiece that can be accommodated on the grinder. With such a large capacity, MBI can manage sizable plates and perform grinding operations with precision and accuracy.

By utilizing Blanchard grinders, MBI can achieve flatness and parallelism requirements while removing excess material, ensuring the desired specifications and surface finish are achieved on the plate.

Surface Grinding

Surface grinding is an important process in precision machining helping to achieve a refined finish and tight tolerance requirements on flat surfaces. MBI utilizes surface grinders as part of our finishing process to achieve the desired surface quality and dimensional accuracy of our products.

Surface grinders work by utilizing a vertically rotating grinding wheel that moves back and forth across the workpieces' surface. This grinding action removes small amounts of material, resulting in a smooth and even finish. The grinding wheel's rotation, along with the movement of the table holding the workpiece, allows for precise control over the material removal process.

MBI surface grinders have a range of capacities, with our largest grinder capable of accommodating workpieces of up to 42" wide by 84" long. This generous size capacity allows for the processing of larger parts or multiple smaller parts simultaneously, enhancing production efficiency.
